Prophylaxis and Root Planing

Do you want a fresh, beautiful smile? Lakewood Ranch teeth cleaning might be what you need. With our in-house prophylaxis service, you can finally show off those pearly whites. At Lake Dental, we ensure that you have a healthy, beautiful smile for many years to come!

A prophylaxis is the practice of professionally cleaning your mouth and teeth from the onset of oral diseases. Root planing involves removing calculus--a hard, tooth-colored substance that is harvesting bacteria-- from the roots of your teeth.

A prophylaxis begins with a comprehensive oral examination of your mouth and teeth. Root planing requires using a scaling instrument to remove calculus from your teeth under the gum line.

Tooth Colored Fillings

While in the past tooth fillings were mostly made of amalgam, silver, or gold, modern dental practices now use a composite resin filling that can be color matched to the tooth in which it is placed. Tooth colored fillings are perfect for all ages and useful because if they do come out, they are not toxic to the body. Amalgam fillings of the past sometimes contained mercury, and were likely to cause problems if swallowed, however tooth colored fillings are much safer.

If you think you may have a cavity and need a filling for one or more of your teeth, come see Lake Dental. We are here to make your visit as comfortable as possible so you can be confident in your new smile.

Sealants

When it comes to protecting your teeth, one of the best things you can do at your next visit is to have sealants placed on teeth that may be vulnerable to infection or other issues. Sealants are especially popular for our pediatric patients, because their teeth are more susceptible to cavities and decay in general. Sealants are like a protective cover over your teeth that help you keep bacteria and other abrasives from negatively affecting your teeth.

This means that the enamel on the surface of your teeth is better protected from acidic foods and drinks that can slowly wear it down. Sealants are done quickly and are an inexpensive fix with many benefits.

If you think you might be a candidate for dental sealants, don’t hesitate to give our office a call. We are here to help you restore your confidence in your smile. We have the technology and the skills necessary to make your next visit a comfortable one.

Digital Dentistry & 3D Scanning

Dental cleaning tools and polishing paste on a metal tray next to a green dental chair.

The technology that our team uses to get to know all of the individual aspects of your oral health have evolved drastically over the last few years, and as a result we have a series of new digital scanning machines that turn thousands of digital scans into a readable 3D image of your teeth and jaw. This allows us to take more accurate measurements for the application of things like implants, dentures, bridges, and much more. In the past, most dentists used mold impressions, but these cause many patients anxiety and discomfort, while digital scans are done in minutes with no side effects.

Lake Dental takes pride in providing our patients with the best technology that we can utilize to ensure that they are as comfortable as possible during their visit with us. We are using theses systems more often in an effort to use x-rays less, because x-rays use a small amount of radiation, while digital scanning equipment does not.

Any of our patients that come in for regular cleanings and more will get to use our digital 3D scanning equipment as we get to know your oral health. Don’t hesitate to give us a call if you have any questions about our other services and procedures.
